Emily Varga
Emily is a psychologist with over 17 years of experience across community health, schools, outreach services and private practice. She is the Principal Psychologist at Sunbury Psychology and works with children, adolescents, young adults and families.
Emily has a particular interest in supporting young people experiencing anxiety, difficulties managing emotions, identity and relationship challenges, grief and loss, adjusting to change, body image and eating concerns, and neurodivergence. She works in a neuroaffirming, identity-affirming and inclusive way, with a strong focus on helping young people feel safe, understood and connected to themselves and others.
Emily also works closely with parents and caregivers, helping them understand what may be happening for their child and finding practical ways to support them to strengthen family relationships.
Emily’s Approach
Emily is warm, collaborative and curious in her approach. She believes a strong therapeutic relationship matters, and that therapy works best when people feel heard and understood, without judgement or pressure to move faster than feels right for them.
Rather than using one approach for everyone, Emily draws on a range of evidence-based therapies depending on the person and what they need. These include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), emotion-focused and attachment-informed approaches, alongside neuroaffirming practice.
While Emily works mainly with children, adolescents, young adults and families, she has experience working with people across different stages of life. She has also continued working with many young people as they move into adulthood, valuing the trust and understanding that can develop through a longer-term therapeutic relationship.
